STEP 1

The application of HULL MAXX™ is simple and requires no special equipment. However, surface preparation is critical to the success of the application and the functionality of the coating.

HULL MAXX™ can also be applied over an existing hard antifouling. If this is the case for you, please refer to the PDF application instructions or contact us.

We recommend applying the coating 5 to 10 cm above the waterline to protect this area from fouling and make cleaning easier.

STEP 2.

HULL MAXX™ requires a clean surface that is free of oil, salt, contaminants or wax. If necessary, dewax the hull. Please use gloves to prevent skin grease from contaminating the surface.

For boats that have been in salt water, wash the surface with Palm Olive, Dawn or similar dishwashing detergent to remove all soluble salts from the substrate. Do not use special boat cleaning soaps as they may contain protective additives or waxes.

Sand the portion of the hull bottom to be coated using a Scotch-Brite "Type 'A' Very Fine Finish" hand pad with medium pressure. Wet the pad in a bucket of soapy water and use Palm Olive, Dawn or a similar dishwashing detergent that does not contain waxes. When dry, you should see a flat, non-glossy, even surface on the hull. Make sure no shiny spots remain on the surface; repeat the process if you see any residual shine.

Rinse the surface with clean water (water hose or pressure washer) to ensure all soap and paint residue has been removed. Allow the surface to dry to ensure the entire area has been sanded. From this step on, always wear gloves when touching a surface to be coated.

Once dry, wipe the surface of the hull with odorless mineral spirits or denatured alcohol. Then allow to dry for at least 3 to 5 minutes.

If you want to use a random orbital sander or something similar for sanding, use 600-grit sandpaper (800-grit sandpaper for a new boat). Be sure to wash the hull thoroughly with a water hose or pressure washer after sanding. Wiping it down with a rag is not enough and you could make mistakes in the application. After washing and when the surface of the hull is dry, perform the next step.

Apply Nasco's "Adhesion Promoter Primer" ("Primer") to the torso surface using a small applicator pad. Please note that a small amount is very productive. The primer will become cloudy within 5 to 7 minutes. HULL MAXX™ must be applied within 30 minutes of applying the primer once. If the 30 minute window is not met, simply apply another coat of primer to that area. Make sure the surface is completely covered with primer. Depending on the size of the vessel and due to the time window for application, we recommend applying the primer and HULL MAXX™ in sections or have one person apply the primer and 5-10 minutes later have another person roll on the Hull Maxx.

STEP 3.

Now apply HULL MAXX™ to the primer with a foam roller or brush so that it does not pick up lint. We recommend a 50 percent overlap when applying to ensure complete coverage.

An adequate HULL MAXX™ coating requires a thick wet film of at least 6 mils (0.152 mm) thick. You need an evenly wet (but not runny) and uniform coverage. You should hear a slight tacky sound when rolling back and forth; if this is not the case, you have not applied enough product. When applying HULL MAXX™, we recommend that you check your work every four to five yards to ensure an even application. Pay attention to runs, high spots and low spots. Make sure the surface is completely coated with HULL MAXX™.
